Who we are
RAIC was started in 2017 by refugees living in Indonesia. Many of our team bring their own experience of displacement to the work, and we believe the people closest to that experience are best placed to find the solutions that will make the biggest difference.
We work in Jakarta and the Cisarua and Bogor area, where many urban refugees live. Our community includes people from Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Somalia, Sudan, Ethiopia, Syria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and beyond.
RAIC is a registered organisation in both Indonesia and Canada.
We want a world where every refugee and asylum seeker has the information, resources and opportunities to take part in the decisions that shape their lives.
Why our work matters
Indonesia hasn’t signed the 1951 Refugee Convention. Thousands of refugees live here with few protected rights and very little support, often waiting many years for a long-term solution.
Services are stretched, and barriers like language, cost, discrimination and movement restrictions mean many people miss out on help altogether. RAIC works from within the community to close some of those gaps.

Cope
Peer-led mental health and psychosocial support, offered in community languages, online and in person.
Solutions
Information, advice and practical help for refugees navigating legal processes and long-term options such as private sponsorship.
Basic needs
Food and hygiene packages, access to preventative health care, and emergency medical and housing assistance.
Advocacy
Working through regional and global networks for more funding and decision-making power for refugee-led organisations.
Our networks
RAIC is a member of the Resourcing Refugee Leadership Initiative (RRLI), a coalition of refugee-led organisations working to shift funding and decision-making power to refugee leaders.

We can’t do this work alone. Here are a few ways to work with us.
Partner with us
We work with organisations, refugee-led movements, businesses, philanthropists and individuals who share our vision. That might look like funding, advocacy, training, workplace giving or in-kind support.
Volunteer
If you’re a refugee or asylum seeker living in Indonesia, you’re welcome to volunteer with our programs on the ground. We also have remote roles for people anywhere in the world, including translation, communications, fundraising and events.
Book a speaker
Our speakers share first-hand perspectives on displacement in Indonesia, including refugee leadership, mental health, legal processes, and the right to work and education. We ask for at least a month’s notice, and may request a fee to help cover costs.
